From the first announcement of Longhorn Network, ESPN had made, that they wished to broadcast 18 high school football games per season. The idea caused quite an uproar among the other conference schools because of the possible ethical and recruiting violations. Of a meeting held on 1 August 2011 was between all of the Big 12 athletic director, it was decided that the issue of broadcasting high school football games on the network would be postponed for a year.
