Oregon Ducks | Oregon ducks Footaball News

Her crime was one of the best things about college football last year and this year they continue to see their scoring opportunities.

Last year, when they played the Tennessee Vols of the Southeastern Conference, they were held under 20 points for the first half. Then about half time adjustments were made by Coach Kelly and the offense, and they ended up scoring 48 points on the Vols win 48-13.

The offense again this year both of their starting quarterback and running back spot, who were both instrumental in the success of the Ducks offensive game plans last year.

This year, James comes into the season as a Heisman favorite and expected to go beyond his statistics last year.

Can the Ducks do not only back in the National Championship Game, but more points than last year?

It is scary to think that it is not only possible, but it is certain that they.

All flights from Delhi to Leh have been cancelled

LEH: At least 80 people were killed and 300 injured after heavy downpour triggered flash floods devastating Leh in the Ladakh region.

J&K Director General of Police Kuldeep Khoda said a massive rescue operation was underway involving the state police, paramilitary forces and the army in Leh town.

Among the dead were three jawans of the Army Service Corps. 50 CRPF jawans were rescued from the flooded areas, Khoda said.

The BSNL network was completely damaged, besides the runway of the Leh airport, cutting off the town from the rest of the country.

The district hospital and two buildings housing offices of the union home ministry were also affected.

Five villages have been hit in the sudden downpour and flash floods. These included Choglumsar and Shapoo. Old Leh city was among the worst affected. The main bus stand was flattened.

Leh is located at a height of 11,500 feet above sea level, 424 kilometres from Srinagar. The worst hit was Choglumsar area, 13 km from here, where 14 bodies were recovered, officials said.

Khoda said the toll may go up. "The actual damage will be known only after the water receded," another senior official said.

Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, while expressing grief over the tragedy, has directed the civil and police administration to undertake relief and rescue work on a war footing.

All flights from Delhi to Leh have been cancelled.

he would quit if asked to by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh or Sonia Gandhi. Read more: Won't quit, making Games a success my first priority: Kalmadi - India - The Times of India http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/india/Wont-quit-making-Games-a-success-my-first-priority-Kalmadi/articleshow/6265814.cms#ixzz0vpGOCZwL

NEW DELHI: Suresh Kalmadi has ruled out stepping down as Commonwealth Games Organising Committee Chairman in the wake of corruption allegations but said he would quit if asked to by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh or Sonia Gandhi.

He said his first priority was to make a success of the Games and "will not run away from responsibility" but would quit after the event if anything was found against him.

"If my leaders and IOA don't want me there, then I am ready to quit. If there is something so big that I have done wrong. But I tell you there is no wrong. Let the inquiry report come out. There is nothing to be ashamed of," Kalmadi told 'Times Now'.

He was asked if he would step down now in the wake of a spate of allegations of corruption in giving contracts and Kalmadi said instead of stepping aside, he would take action against those who are found guilty.

"If some action is (found to be) wrong, then definitely I will not spare anyone who is responsible for it...There is no charge against me, it is against somebody else," he said.

Quizzed about the 'doctored' e-mails from the Indian High Commission he made public to justify payments worth lakhs of pounds to a UK-based company for services provided during the Queen's Baton Relay in London, Kalmadi said he did not know whether the mails were authentic.

Organising Committee's Joint Director General T S Darbari, who oversaw the QBR's London leg, was suspended after the furore and the IOA chief said there is a possibility that he was misled by his close aide.

A three-member probe panel is currently investigating the matter after the Ministry of External Affairs revealed that the e-mails were 'doctored' to add the UK-based A M Films name as a recommened company for car rentals and other services.

"I asked Darbari to show me the e-mails and he showed me those e-mails. It could be that I was misled. I am not a technocrat to know if they were genuine. The (probe) committee will look into all this and tell," he said.

"The Ministry gave me a different e-mail. I said I am not a technological expert. They didn't mention doctored or forged. They just said one line is different. Whether they were forged, we would know only after the inquiry," Kalmadi said.

Kalmadi, nonetheless, defended Darbari insisting that the tainted official had worked well while in office.

"Darbari has a lot of business to take care of but he has done his job. He is an efficient officer. He has been very helpful," he said.

"I trust all my officials. I have got 2,000 people working for me and I trust all of them. It was a tough decision to suspend," he said.

On why Darbari was kept on board in OC despite a tainted past, including a customs case, Kalmadi said he was sent on leave when the case initially came out but was taken back after he gave in writing that he was merely a witness in the matter.

"He was not suspended, he went on leave. He went for the inquiry and came back with a letter saying that he was called as a witness and nothing more than that. So he was taken back," he reasoned.

But Kalmadi said he would not protect Darbari if he is found guilty in the QBR financial irregularities case.

"If I see some financial irregularieties, I am not going to protect one person. There is no letter which states that Darbari is a culprit in that (customs case). There is an inquiry going on and the moment the inquiry is over, I will tell you," he said.

Asked persistently why he was not taking the moral responsibility for the corruption charges, inclduing the ones levelled in a Central Vigilance Commission report, Kalmadi reckoned he could not be expected to own up for mistakes committed by others.

"I have 2000 people working under me, I don't see all the papers. Matters go to the Executive Board, where four officers from the government sit. Every single paisa has been passed by such committees," he explained.

"If I am involved then I would see. Once the Games are over CWGOC would be disbanded anyway so no question of me stepping aside," he said.

All India tennis Association chief Anil Khanna stepped down from the post of OC treasurer after his name cropped up in a controversy over the contracts awarded to a company in which his son is an employee.

Asked if he was willing to take such moral responsibility and step aside, Kalmadi said, "Anil Khanna can afford to resign but I as chairman of CWGOC cannot. These Games are my baby, I have made promises to the Commonwealth Games Federation. I would have a tough time explaining to them that the Games are in trouble when I step down."

"I have got 34 functional areas to look after which is a mammoth task," he added

Techno-Music Festival Love Parade 2010 Accident : 18 Dead

Germany – Crowds of people streaming into a techno music festival surged through an already jammed entry tunnel on Saturday, setting off a panic that killed 18 people and injured 80 at an event meant to celebrate love and peace.

The circumstances of the stampede at the famed Love Parade festival in Duisburg in western Germany were still not clear even hours after the chaos, but it appeared that some or most of the 18 had been crushed to death.
Authorities also suggested that some of the people killed or injured might have attempted to flee the crowd by jumping over a barrier and falling several meters (yards). Witnesses described a desperate scene, as people piled up on each other or scrambled over others who had fallen in the crush.
“The young people came to celebrate and instead there are dead and injured,” said Chancellor Angela Merkel. “I am horrified by the suffering and the pain.”
Criticism quickly fell on city officials for allowing only one entrance to the grounds of a hugely popular event that drew hundreds of thousands of people to dance, watch floats and listen to DJs spin. German media said 1.4 million people attended but that figure could not be immediately confirmed.
The founder of the Love Parade, Matthias Roeingh, known by the name Dr. Motte, blasted the planning for the event, saying “one single entrance through a tunnel lends itself to disaster. I am very sad.”
City officials chose not to evacuate the site, fearing it might spark more panic, and many people continued partying, unaware of the deaths.
Emergency workers had trouble getting to the victims, hampered by the huge crowds. The area was a hectic scene, with bodies lying on the ground and people milling around or attending to them. Rescue workers carried away the injured as techno music thundered in the background.
Local media reported that the cell phone system in Duisburg broke down temporarily and frantic parents trying to reach their children instead drove to the scene to look for them.
However, most streets downtown were blocked by police and the highways leading to the city were jammed. Several media outlets also reported that rescue helicopters had problems taking away the heavily injured because there was not enough space for them to land.
Authorities believe the panic might have first been sparked outside the tunnel when some revelers tried to jump over a barrier and fell, said Wolfgang Rabe, the head of the crisis unit set up by Duisburg city authorities.
Police commissioner Juergen Kieskemper said that just before the stampede occurred at about 5 p.m. (1500 GMT, 11 a.m. EDT), police closed off the area where the parade was being held because it was already overcrowded. They told revelers over loudspeakers to turn around and walk back in the other direction before the panic broke out, he said.
Eyewitness Udo Sandhoefer told n-tv television that even though no one else was being let in, people still streamed into the tunnel, causing “a real mass panic.”
“At some point the column (of people) got stuck, probably because everything was closed up front, and we saw that the first people were already lying on the ground,” he said.
“Others climbed up the walls and tried somehow to get into the grounds from the side, and the people in the crowd that moved up simply ran over those who were lying on the ground.”
Another witness, a young man who wasn’t named, told n-tv the tunnel became so crowded that people began falling. “It got tighter and tighter from minute to minute and at some point everyone just wanted out,” he said. “People were just pushed together until they fell over.”
Duisburg city officials decided at a crisis meeting to let the parade go on to prevent more panic and another stampede, said city spokesman Frank Kopatschek.
It is the worst accident of its kind since nine people were crushed to death and 43 more were injured at a rock festival in Roskilde, Denmark, in 2000. That fatal accident occurred when a huge crowd pushed forward during a Pearl Jam gig.
The Love Parade was once an institution in Berlin, but has been held in the industrial Ruhr region of western Germany since 2007.
The original Berlin Love Parade grew from a 1989 peace demonstration into a huge outdoor celebration of club culture that drew about 1.5 million people at its peak in 1999. But it suffered from financial problems and tensions with city officials in later years, and eventually moved.
The website of the Love Parade — whose motto this year was “The Art of Love — went black on Saturday night, with words in white saying:
“Our wish to arrange a happy togetherness was overshadowed by the tragic accidents today. … Our sincere condolences to all the relatives and our thoughts are with all of those who are currently being taken care of.”

Iowa Lake Delhi Dam Fails Causing ‘Catastrophic’ Release of Water

Lake Delhi Dam Saturday sent water spilling downstream and hundreds of people fleeing for safety in eastern Iowa.
David Fink, Lake Delhi dam operation manager, called the breach “a catastrophic release of water.”

“It’s going to have a hell of a lot of velocity,” he told The Des Moines Register.
The dam, which sits on the Maquoketa River about 45 miles north of Cedar Rapids, failed following massive amounts of rain.
The road on top of the dam collapsed around 10:30 a.m., and water gushed over just before 1pm the newspaper reported.
Some media outlets are reporting the water reached the eaves of several homes and businesses in the immediate vicinity. Others report rushing water flooding over railings and onto roads and fields.
Authorities sounded flood warning sirens in nearby Hopkinton, a town of 700 residents, giving them five minutes to flee.
One homeowner told Fox News that all he can do is wait until the water gets to his town.
A flood warning was also announced in Monticello, which has a population of 3,700.
Officials do not know if the entire dam will give way, but residents in low-lying areas have been ordered to leave their homes a

US Aircraft Carrier ups Pressure on North Korea

A massive nuclear-powered U.S. supercarrier began maneuvers Sunday with ally South Korea in a potent show of force that North Korea has threatened could lead to “sacred war.”
The military drills, code-named “Invincible Spirit,” are to run through Wednesday with about 8,000 U.S. and South Korean troops, 20 ships and submarines and 200 aircraft. The Nimitz-class USS George Washington, with several thousand sailors and dozens of fighters aboard, was deployed from Japan.

The North routinely threatens attacks whenever South Korea and the U.S. hold joint military drills, which Pyongyang sees as a rehearsal for an invasion. The U.S. keeps 28,500 troops in South Korea and another 50,000 in Japan, but says it has no intention of invading the North.
Still, the North’s latest rhetoric threatening “nuclear deterrence” and “sacred war” carries extra weight following the sinking of a South Korean warship that killed 46 sailors. Seoul and Washington say a North Korean torpedo was responsible for the March sinking of the Cheonan, considered the worst military attack on the South since the 1950-53 Korean War.
The American and South Korean defense chiefs announced earlier in the week they would stage the military drills to send a clear message to North Korea to stop its “aggressive” behavior.
The exercises will be the first in a series of U.S.-South Korean maneuvers to be conducted in the Sea of Japan off Korea’s east coast and in the Yellow Sea closer to China’s shores in international waters. The exercises also are the first to employ the F-22 stealth fighter — which can evade North Korean air defenses — in South Korea.
South Korea was closely monitoring North Korea’s military, but no unusual activity had been observed Saturday, South Korea’s Yonhap news agency reported.
North Korea, which denies any involvement in the sinking of the Cheonan warship, has warned the United States against attempting to punish it.
“The army and people of the DPRK will legitimately counter with their powerful nuclear deterrence the largest-ever nuclear war exercises to be staged by the U.S. and the South Korean puppet forces,” North Korea’s official news agency in Pyongyang quoted an unnamed government spokesman as saying. North Korea’s official name is the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea.
Though the impoverished North has a large conventional military and the capability to build nuclear weapons, it is not believed to have the technology needed to use nuclear devices as warheads.
Its rhetoric regarding using nuclear deterrence was seen by most as bluster, but its angry response to the maneuvers underscores the rising tensions in the region.
U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton announced Wednesday, after visiting the Demilitarized Zone dividing the two Koreas, that the U.S. would slap new sanctions on the North to stifle its nuclear ambitions and punish it for the Cheonan sinking.
On Friday, the European Union said it, too, would consider new sanctions on North Korea.
The North’s Foreign Ministry said Saturday that Pyongyang will further strengthen its nuclear deterrent and again mentioned “powerful physical measures” in response to the U.S. military provocations and sanctions.
In an apparent bow to China, the George Washington will participate in the exercise in the Sea of Japan, but there are no plans for it to enter the Yellow Sea for the subsequent exercises.
China, a traditional North Korean ally, has voiced concerns that military drills in the Yellow Sea could inflame tensions on the Korean Peninsula and also fears exercises too close to its own shores could breach Chinese security.
The George Washington had been expected to join in exercises off Korea sooner, but the Navy delayed those plans as the United Nations Security Council met to deliberate what action it should take over the Cheonan sinking.
The council eventually condemned the incident, but stopped short of naming North Korea as the perpetrator.

Lindsay Lohan Jail Updates : Lindsay Lohan Eating the Same Meals as Regular inmates

Lindsay Lohan is eating the same meals as regular inmates at the Century Regional Detention Facility. But that doesn’t mean she’s being entirely treated like the others.

“She’s not treated like if it was anyone else going to jail,” Maria Medina, a relative of an inmate at Lohan’s jail tells PEOPLE. “Like, if they even want to bring her new clothes or bring her anything, they put the whole facility on lockdown. It happens all the time.”
Medina, 40, says residents at the jail, based in Lynwood, Calif., find it unfair that someone they’re not even allowed to see is exerting so much control over their stay.
“All the inmates are sick of Lindsay,” Medina says. “It’s almost like Lindsay Lohan’s here, but she’s not. Like if she even moves, they put the whole facility on lockdown. It happens all the time. For example, just yesterday [Friday], Lindsay had to go to the mini-clinic, and the whole place was on lockdown again.”
Los Angeles Sheriff’s spokesman Steve Whitmore denied Medina’s claim. “It’s business as usual. Lindsay’s getting no special treatment,” he told PEOPLE on Saturday. He also said there is no such thing as “lockdowns.”
As far as Lohan is concerned, she’s now apparently in a much better state of mind than earlier this week.
“[Lindsay's] doing well, she’s doing fine,” Lohan’s lawyer Shawn Chapman Holley tells PEOPLE. “Her outlook is definitely more positive.”
Despite speculation that Lohan was given exemptions when it came to visitation limits, Holley told reporters her client is playing by the rules, saying,”[Her family's] not allowed any more visits this week.”
Whitmore earlier this week told PEOPLE that Lohan received her visits during the week to avoid disrupting other families visiting on the weekend with ensuing TV crews and photographers.

Iran Stepping up its Research on Nuclear Fusion

Iran stepping up its research on nuclear fusion in a bid to produce alternative sources of energy
Tehran : The head of Iran’s Atomic Energy Organization, Ali Akbar Salehi, said Saturday that his country is stepping up its research on nuclear fusion in a bid to produce alternative sources of energy. The announcement comes as world powers pressure Tehran to suspend its controversial nuclear activities.

It was not clear why Iran’s atomic energy chief, Ali Akbar Salehi, chose this moment to make his announcement.
During a conference on developing alternative energy sources Saturday, Salehi said Tehran plans to build an experimental nuclear fusion reactor. He said that Iran had hired 50 scientists to work on the project, and that $8 million had been allocated for what he called “serious” research.
Nuclear fusion is a process in which light atomic particles, such as hydrogen, are combined to form heavier particles that release a great amount of energy. However, this type of atomic reaction has not been successfully developed for commercial power, despite five decades of intensive research.
In 2006, global powers agreed to spend more than $12 billion to build an experimental fusion reactor in the south of France. That accord was signed by the United States, the European Union, China, India, Russia, South Korea and Japan.
Salehi, who has a doctorate from MIT, claimed that Iran’s project would require intense effort, but could provide Tehran with large dividends in diversifying its sources of civilian energy.
He says that nuclear fusion is a new technology, and that it needs intense effort to develop. He adds that it will take 20 to 30 years to commercialize nuclear fusion, but that Iran will try to use its resources to achieve that goal sooner.
Nuclear fusion is also the technology behind thermonuclear explosions used in hydrogen bombs. Such weapons are more powerful than ordinary atomic bombs, which rely on fission reactions.
Iran’s nuclear program is already engulfed in a cloud of controversy for enriching uranium, a process than can be used to produce an atomic weapon. Tehran claims that it is enriching uranium for its civilian nuclear program. Western nations suspect Iran is secretly working to develop nuclear weapons.
The United Nations recently imposed a new set of economic sanctions against Iran because of its sensitive nuclear activities.
Asghar Sediqzadeh, who was appointed to run Iran’s new fusion research center, told Iranian television that it would take two years to conclude initial studies, followed by another 10 years to design and build a fusion reactor.
Foundation for the Defense of Democracies senior fellow Emanuele Ottolenghi has written extensively about Iran’s nuclear program. He argues that it makes more sense that Iran would want to harness nuclear fusion for military than for civilian purposes.
“If the Iranians had this wonderful technological edge over the rest of the world, and they were about to produce a nuclear reactor that does fusion in a commercially viable fashion, bless them,” said Ottolenghi. “But, the fact that nobody else has done it so far suggests that maybe the Iranians are up to just playful banter. However, if one looks at what the reality of a military program is, if you want to have thermonuclear weapons, you need to master the technology for fusion. And while fusion is not commercially viable for civilian purposes, fusion allows you to build infinitely more powerful nuclear weapons.”
According to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Iran’s controversial nuclear enrichment facility at Natanz has now produced close to 2.5 tons of low-grade, enriched uranium. The Iranian government claims it now has 17 kilograms of 20 percent enriched uranium. Experts say that such a quantity could be used to build two nuclear (fission-based) warheads.
Ottolenghi notes that Iran has now produced enough uranium to build fission-based nuclear weapons within a reasonable amount of time, if it chose to do so. The question, he adds, is whether Tehran can work secretly enough to avoid getting caught before reaching its goal.
