Former captain of Indian cricket team Sourav Ganguly’s security guard was severely beaten up by some people after he tried to disperse an agitating crowd at Behala on the southern outskirts of this city, police said.
The incident happened Saturday night when Ganguly was returning home in his car, they said.
Ganguly’s car got stuck near Behala crossing on Diamond Harbour Road as a group of people were agitating over an accident in the area.
The former Test player’s personal securityman Bivas Guha got down from the car and tried to disperse the crowd. But the protestors got agitated and beat him black and blue.
Guha has been hospitalised. However, Ganguly was unharmed, the police said.

Amitabh Bachchan to endorse the sports channel ESPN, and has been roped in to be the Brand Ambassador for the T20 Champions League Tournament, which is to be held in Sri Lanka in September.
Big B, who is the biggest draw in terms of popularizing any product under the Sun, has also been a keen follower of sports and sporting activities in and around the world.
The shooting for the ad took place recently, along with the stills and the dubbing for the same being done on that very evening.
As Big B, is well known for giving most of his views on most events in his micro blogging site, twitter, he did so regarding this ad campaign as well.
Big B mentioned that the ad was shot, and the dubbing also completed in a record time, this amazed the mega star, as he is always very impressed with work done perfectly and bang on time!

Buzz is that Azharuddin is currently dating 26-year-old badminton player Jwala Gutta.
Jwala Gutta is married to to India’s top ranked badminton player Chetan Anand, but the couple is not on good terms. It is learned that they are staying separate.
Close source from the Andhra Pradesh Badminton Association said, “Jwala and her husband are not staying together at the moment and are even practising separately.”
“Whenever Azharuddin is in Hyderabad, he is seen in Pullela Gopichand’s academy where Jwala practises and they both leave together,” he added.
When contacted Azharuddin termed this as baseless and rumours. Jwala Gutta, “ it’s neither a yes nor a no.’ Her husband Chetan Anand said, ‘It’s a personal issue and I don’t want to comment anything.’

The 38-year-old Muralitharan, the leading wicket-taker in tests and one-day internationals, dismissed Pragyan Ojha to reach in his final Test match appearance.
In his final Test, Muralitharan picked up his 67th five-wicket haul and forced India to follow-on after they had resumed their first innings at 140/3 on Wednesday.
Having dismissed Tendulkar in the first innings on the third day, Muralitharan added the wickets of Yuvraj (52), skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni (33) and tailenders Pragyan Ojha and Abhimanyu Mithun.
Galle has been Muralitharan’s favorite hunting ground, where he has taken 103 wickets in 14 matches with an average of 18

Yousuf willing to return from retirement for England tour
Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), also said he is willing to play under any captain.
"If the team doesn’t need me, I stand retired. But if I’m needed, I am ready and available to serve my country," Yousuf, a former captain, was quoted as saying by Express Tribune on Monday.
Yousuf, who previously said he could only return in a series against South Africa in October after the England tour, has now stated that he can join the team in England.
"I am available any time for the national team. If PCB invites me with respect I will definitely go, said Yousuf, adding he is fit to play international cricket.
"I can play under any captain and have never felt degraded playing under anyone."
Yousuf said he is in touch with the PCB chairman Ijaz Butt and has no issues with him.
The PCB has termed Yousuf's decision as a positive development.
"It is good that Yousuf is ready to play but we cannot make an instant decision. We are discussing this matter," Butt said from London.
He, however, ruled out Yousuf's return for the final Test against Australia but said that he could be brought in for the England series.
"It is not possible to include Yousuf for the last Test against Australia since there is little time left but his inclusion for series against England is a possibility," he said.

Bedi, for long stridently opposed to any leniency in norms for bowlers with unorthodox arm and elbow positions, paid tribute to Muralitharan's persistence and personality but questioned the legitimacy of his records, calling for the ICC to ban the doosra in the aftermath of the retirement.
"Murali is a wonderful personality, a thinking cricketer and a crafty bowler but he leaves behind a legacy of chucking," said Bedi. "It is high time the ICC woke up to the possibility of the Test scene being swamped by finger spinners with illegitimate actions."
Bedi, who has had his run-ins with Murali in the past over this issue, said: "I have nothing against Murali. He is a unique bowler unlikely to be copied. But before him, the idea that one could throw the ball and get away with it never crossed an off-spinner's mind. A ten-wicket haul for a bowler is like a batsman scoring centuries in both innings, while I equate a five-wicket haul in an innings with a century. Murali has 66 five-wicket hauls and 22 ten-wicket hauls in Tests, which is a bit hard to believe and could never have been possible without the ICC's leniency. At the end of the day, it is a stigma for any bowler to be called for chucking.
"I strongly feel the ICC should take action to ban the doosra since it just cannot be bowled legally. Ashley Mallett has said the 'doosra is nothing but chucking' and Australian spinners, including Shane Warne, have raised an alarm against coaching it in Australia. Who remembers Saqlain Mushtaq, the man credited with inventing the doosra?"
Last year, some leading lights of Australian spin including Warne, MacGill, coach Terry Jenner, Gavin Robertson and Mallett said they would refuse to coach the doosra and agreed it could never be a legitimate delivery.
"Comparing Murali with the likes of Jim Laker is preposterous," said Bedi. "The ICC's experiments with leniency in elbow angles and subjecting Murali to bowling with a cast on his arm was a sham. A chucker can be spotted easily without technology as he has minimal follow-through. This is because the elbow, rather than the shoulder, comes into play. The shoulder doesn't follow the ball, hence no follow-through."
Bedi, incidentally, feels England spinner Graeme Swann has the cleanest action among contemporary spinners.
