CHENNAI: A man pretending to help an elderly woman reach her friend's house in Ashok Nagar robbed her on the way. The robber snatched her eight-sovereign gold chain and escaped.
Akalya, 69, was coming from Virugambakkam to visit a friend in West Mambalam on Saturday. As she was unable to find Velu Street, where her friend lived, she asked a man on a two-wheeler for directions. He offered to drop her off as the road was flooded with rainwater. She accepted his offer quite gratefully.
The man dropped her near the house. As she walked away, he snatched her eight-sovereign gold chain. By the time a shocked Akalya cried out for help, the man sped away.
The police said Akalya had taken a bus from Virugambakkam to Arya Gowda Road, and then started walking. A case has been registered.
